I have been there a couple of times and never felt afraid of wandering through the formations, I do love the part about where the boys were playing lava and jumping from the top of one rock to another. OOppss,but isn't that a bit stupid to allow them to do that.
Also that is a Utah state park that is very well maintained and not a National Park. Part of City Slickers two was filmed there as they were going into the mine. The first part of the first movie was filmed at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico as you can see Pedernal Mtn when they are getting started on the cattle drive.
