- TomG2ExplorerA buddy was detained for a couple of hours when he tried to bring back enough medicine for himself and the folks back home. When he told them that the pharmacy said it was okay, the officer made him realize "That is Mexico, this is the United States". One thing to avoid is smart aleck comments. The officers are there to protect our border, not audition comedians.

There is a lot of truth in that simple statement. People who did not travel outside of this country prior to going to Mexico seem to place way too much faith in 2'nd/3rd world countries. The more you travel the more you realize the US/Canada is the land of milk and honey and with that comes certain rights that you may not have when you leave.
As far as the customs agents are concerned. "Yes sir, No sir, and Thank you sir" has always brought me a "Welcome home" reply. - waldo617211ExplorerIf you're from Canada, the same rules for importing apply to us when we travel back from Mexico to U.S. I know, I specifically asked that question one day @ Algodones & he replied we were under same limitations as an American.
- alfredmayExplorerThanks for the responses....... looks like I can bring back what I need.

I don't know what detaining old white people for bringing meds across does to protect our borders, but them's the rules.

I don't think anyone cares about your gallon sized bottle of prednisone where as if you come with the same bottle of Oxy it might be a different situation. The only way to know is to ask / check.
If you think old people can't sell narcs then enjoy your reality. - 2oldmanExplorer III couldn't care less if old people sell narcs.
- bigorangeExplorer"Only my medical marijuana" might get an interesting reaction. :B
Pharmacist in southern AZ, so I get this question a lot. Anything except controlled substances is technically legal. I know several folks who used to routinely go across for antifungals for their pets for valley fever..saved thousands of dollars a year. - TomG2Explorer

Remove the officers then. See how that works.
I have crossed dozens of times in the last twenty years and this old white guy has never been "detained". - moishehExplorer2oldman: You posted:"I don't know what detaining old white people for bringing meds across does to protect our borders, but them's the rules."
Are you assuming that only white people cross the border? Or are you saying that only white people RV? Or are you saying that it is OK to detain Black or Brown people? Or do you really man that white people do not commit any crimes? I am wondering why you even used "white" in your post? It should have just read "old people".
