We always enjoyed the KOA out at Johnson Village because I could hike right out of the campground and "rock scramble" all the way up to Midland Hill, and even on into Buena Vista--trails down, no trails up from KOA.
In more recent years we have been staying at the Arrowhead Point RV park out north of town.
We prefer either of these parks to any of the "in town" parks, but that is a personal preference, of course.
