BUFFALO, NY, Where to stay?

Visiting family in Buffalo this summer & would like to find a decent campground other than those on Grand Island which are ridiculously expensive due to there proximity to Niagara Falls. Anyone have any suggestions!
  • I camped at Niagara Falls Campground 6-7 years ago while meeting friends to visit the Falls. It was expensive back then and outrageous today. But, it was a place to park and convenient to the Falls. I've also stayed on Grand Island at the cost of an arm and a leg.

In subsequent visits to the Buffalo area, I've stayed at Sheridan's city park on Hwy 5 between Silver Creek and Dunkirk and also Four Mile Creek SP. Both are a 45-50 min. drive to Buffalo, but the price and ambiance is so much better. I will say that Sheridan City park was getting real long in the tooth; mostly 20 amp service (limited 30 amp) and the bath house was very old. It's location on the lake along with it's lower $16/night price was the draw at that time.
  • Oh, we use Evangola state park, in Irving NY when we visit family in the area. Typical ny park water and sewer available but no hook ups and 30 amp hook up. so if longer visit we use parks on grand island. I will be watching this to see if we have been missing something.
  • We stayed at Branches of Niagara in Grand Island a few years ago. Nice Park but it's the most expensive campground we have stayed in through 4 years of fulltiming. While we were there we saw a small motel with a nice campground just up the Road. Had we known about it beforehand we would have stayed there. Seemed like a nice quiet place and was very reasonably priced.

  • We're taking the trip there for a few days on June 28. We're staying about 40 miles out in a KOA in Medina, NY.
  • We love Four Mile Creek ....beautiful camp ground and you can park for free in downtown Niagara Falls with your pass. It is a little bit of a distance to Buffalo though so it depends on if you're okay with that ...check it out though :)
