Campfires can you do without?

I am always amazed how many people, mostly city folks, like to burn wood. After growing up in the rural America clearing brush/trees & having to burn it and heating with wood; the last thing I want is more smoke & fire. A couple of years back we stayed at a Florida State Park East of Tampa over New Years and the city folk had so many fires the smoke looked like fog. They thought they were in heaven even tho you couldn't breath or enjoy the views. Shut the windows, turned on the AC and enjoyed my AC. Every time someone starts a fire, I start my AC!
