Campfires can you do without?

Wild Fire season looks to be a long one this year.
So can you camp without a campfire?

I can and do most of the time.
Alas the wife loves a fire so to please her we oxidize a little wood on occasion.
Must be something to do with human evolution that so many must have a fire or they are not camping.

Yet I think campfires and fire rings in remote places are unsightly, smelly, and just generally disagreeable.

  • We got a Little Red Campfire and sit around it some times when we cannot have wood fires.
  • The grandkids like to have smores. I prefer using the microwave and avoid the smoke and heat in the Florida summer. They prefer a fire. So, when they are camping with me, I acquiesce.
  • Put in my vote for campfires. Whenever I smell wood smoke I think of camping. One goes with the other. Now keep in mind I do not have a fire every time I go camping but it is a nice thing to have when the mood swings that way.
  • I'm the same pretty much. Don't have much for the smoke or smell. Happy just to sit around and talk a spell. Now I have thought of the gas fire rings. No smoke, no smell, heat on the cool evenings and you can still roast things on em.
  • I got the beer.. Who has the popcorn !?

FYI... Health reasons now prohibit me from being close to a campfire :(
