When you say "the redwoods" where exactly are you talking about? If you are far enough north, don't miss Trees of Mystery near Crescent City,CA, the victorian style houses of Ferndale,CA, the lumber camp towns along the coast, Samoa Cookhouse in Eureka,CA. Hwy 299 from Eureka to Redding has a lot of neat things to see too. If you come across 299, be sure to stop in Weaverville,CA, it is an old gold mining town with lots of museums and The Joss House. Another place to stop would be Whiskeytown Lake, there are several camp grounds around the lake if you wanted to spend a night or two.
