Hello:We are planning on traveling from Washington DC up to New York City in July and are hoping for suggestions for a nice campground near Manhattan. We will need to have access to public transportation so that we do not need to take our tow vehicle into the city.We have a 34' travel trailer and would like full hook ups with a 30 amp service.Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

We have stayed at Liberty Harbor. Just across the river from Manhattan.

Not as close but we'll be staying in a county park on Long Island this summer and taking the train into Manhattan for the day. Really depends on what you are looking for (for us, the kids are going to love the train ride into the city so it's part of the trip) I believe Liberty Harbor is easily the closest one but it's pretty much just a parking lot. Also it's not cheap, at 34' plus your tow vehicle, you'll be over the 45' site length so it will cost your $100/night.

If the purpose of the trip is to visit Manhattan, and if you are doing late-night stuff, then consider that the Liberty Harbor-Manhattan subway runs all night. New Jersey Light Rail (between Liberty Harbor and subway) runs until 2 am. (or it did when we were there 3 years ago). The area seemed safe, plus there was a 24-hour security guard.

Are you saying that I will be charged extra to park my vehicle because it won't fit on the site or is the difference just the tax? For those who have stayed there, are there any specific site numbers that you can recommend that will fit my 34' trailer and extended cab truck? Has anyone stayed at Liberty Harbor with at least a 34' long trailer plus extended cab tow vehicle, or equivalent? I am curious about the actual space available at the sites, from people who have experienced it.

When we were there they were not that busy. And to be honest, for those who pay $90.00 a night there were some high end rigs there. I wouldn't worry about damage. My wife and I walked to the PATH station each morning...it's $2.50 each way. There are small discounts for buying a multi-day card. It takes 20 minutes or so to be in NY. Whatever street Liberty RV is on (can't remember the name) you go straight up that about 2 miles to the market and mall.

It's a good location as far as accessing the city.

I park my 42 FT coach and jeep on my site with no issues.

We're going in July for the third time. There was no issue with the 35' rv and a car on the site. All the sites are the same. Yes, it's a parking lot, but it's safe, handy, and we have had no issues at night there walking to and from the train. There is a nightclub on site, and apparently it can get noisy on Saturday nights. Can't say we noticed any noise.

The old night club was pretty rowdy at closing time. I used to walk down to the end of the row and watch the "Walk of Shame" as the guidos and guidettes staggered out to their cars LOL. But it had a fire ans was closed for a year or two. The replacement place is pretty tame in relation.

Nope. It's just across the parking lot. It's part of the marina
