Campground Recommendation Mount Rushmore Area

Rafter J Bar Ranch is my favorite

Last trip (2016) I stayed at Horse Thief and enjoyed our stay there. It and Rafter J Bar and both very close to the mounument. I assume you plan on doing other things as well though.

Custer KOA, manager and crew are nice people.

I would stay there again it was such a great park

Beaver Lake in Custer

We always stay at the Game lodge Campground inside Custer State Park. It's right at the entrance to the wildlife loop and just a couple of miles from the start of the Iron Mountain Highway where you can see Mt Rushmore through the tunnels as you drive it. No parking fees and and no crowds!

X2 for Game Lodge. Custer State Park has facilities comparable to a national park.

Quite amazing to look out the RV window and see so close up the herd of bison which wandered through the campground several times just on the other side of a fence.
