Campground recommendations around New Orleans

Heading to NO for spring break (first week of April) at our youngest son's request, he wants to check out the area as he is joining the Marines in August & would like to be stationed there after boot camp.

So, fellow campers, I am looking for input on campgrounds in the area. We will be in a truck camper, so our turtle goes with us everywhere.

Any help or advise would be GREATLY appreciated and thank you in advance!!!
  • there is a Rv campground in the French Quarter, but it is expensive. you cant get any closer
  • We were just in that area last week. We stayed across the lake (Lake Ponchatrain) at Fontainbleau State park, beautiful park with water and electrical hook ups and WIFI. I enjoyed seeing all the deer in the morning on my walks. It's an easy drive into NO from there but there is a toll to pay if you take the causeway like we did. :B We would definitely go back if we're ever in the area again.
