Have to agree - this CG is by far the better of all mentioned. Maybe a little more expensive than the state parks, but worth it. They have a pool which may not be open, easy walking distance to the water on both sides - absolutely beautiful sunsets on the intracoastal. May not allow campfires though - call ahead if thats important. Real short drive to downtown St. Augustine, very nice state parks to the north to do some hiking, close to bike/hiking trails at Guano state park, Close grocery store for resupply as mentioned.
North Beach! Atlantic on one end and the IntraCoastal Waterway on the other. Three good restaurants on the water within walking distance. Plenty of vegetation between sites. Three mile ride along the water to downtown and less to rejuvenated Vilano with Publix and other shops. Good staff. Camp on! - JamesBrExplorerIf your trying to be super close to St. Augastine you are correct, Beverly Beach is a hike compared to others. But I actually felt the location was perfect for a vacation destination and more central to finding things to do since things like Daytona Beach is also a reasonable drive (15-20 minutes) as well as Blue Spring State Park which has a great area to view manatees.

Anastasia State Park. Right on the beach. Great locations, about 3 miles from the downtown. Over 100 water and electric sites. 3 great dump stations. Great bike riding.
I have considered Anastasia but after driving through, found the sites to be cramped - most looked hard to get into. If you look at the Florida state park web site, you can see pictures of the sites if you look at the campground map - click on reservations. If you are looking for beach camping and don't mind going a little farther south, check out Gamble Rogers State Park
North Beach Campground was mentioned. It is a private CG, located directly across from the beach. Very nice, with large pull through sites, and some very nice resturaunts on the intracoastal.
Further north is kathryn abbey hanna park which is 20 - 30 minutes from St. Augustine on A1A. Great bike paths, beach access, etc.

the wife and I will be heading to St Augustine Fl in Nov and I'm looking for some help with picking a campground. Thanks

We are here now at St Aug...we are Elks, so stay right near the state park but at the Elks..which has 9 sites with 30 amps and water...so if by chance you are an Elk...stay right here....Chuck - noe-placeExplorerIf going in November and expecting to go to the beach I suggest going at least as far south as Tampa for consistently warm temps.
- Mich_FExplorerAnastasia is a very nice park, and as others have pointed out, although there is a nice beach at the park, the campground is not on the beach. If your stay in Nov. involves a weekend, that's not going to work, as there aren't any sites available over a weekend.
- Bears_DenExplorerI have reservations at Anastasia in Jan. driven thru but never stayed there before. The beach is a short stroll from the campground not right on it as previously posted. So if being right on the ocean is your cup of tea Anastasia does not fill your cup. If you do stay there though, please post your experience for us. Have a great time.
- motorcycle_jackExplorer III would recommend Beverly Beach. Stay away from the KOA. We stayed there for a couple of days until we found out - too cramped, too noisy and no amenities. Much better at B.B.
- oh_boyExplorerAlso Stagecoach RV park at Exit 318 off I95. Quiet, with the malls and C World, restaurants close by. 10 min drive into St Augie.
