We were just in the Black Hills area the weekend right before the start of the Sturgis Rally. Motorcycles were everywhere and campgrounds very scarce. It was the 75th rally so they expected larger than usual crowds and we talked to a number of bikers who came the week before and left before the actual rally start to avoid the big rally crowds. I would avoid that week and the weeks around it if possible. The rally usually brings in 300,000 to 400,000 additional people into the area. That not only affects the campgrounds but the attractions around the area.
We camped at the Arrow Campground in Wall as it was the only place available. We had not made reservations as we were traveling toward home making it as far each day as possible. I would not necessarily recommend it, but it was okay for one night.
