Campgrounds in Missouri

We are doing a coast to coast trip this year and will be in Missouri in late August early September. We've done a lot of research, but are having a hard time finding campgrounds in/around Kansas City for a couple of days and in St. Louis for a couple of days. We have two 40' rigs and looking for something we can use as a home base while sightseeing.

Anyone have suggestions in that area?

  • Hi Don
We visit St Louis fairly frequently and our pick is Sundermeier. It is actually in St Charles just outside of St Louis. Everything you would want to do in St Louis is not far (maybe 15 minutes). You will love the old down town area of St Charles almost walking distance from the park. In KC I have a favorite on the east side Worlds of Fun Village. On the west side in Topeka KS is Deer Creek Valley. KC MO or KC KS are not exactly hot spots for great RV parks. WOF Village is maybe 15 minutes to Royals/Chiefs or Plaza. I know it's a park attached to a theme park but it's a great park even if you are not using the theme park. The park in Topeka is about 60 miles west of KC right off I70. Touring the capitol would be worthwhile. These picks are based on my preference for long level concrete sites and full hook ups. They are all easy to get to and safe, the one in Topeka is gated. Have fun!
  • There is a great RV park in Kansas City at the Worlds of fun amusement park. check it out on line.

Type in Kansas City MO in google search. Click on the MAP... Then search for RV CAMPING...

Lots of hits... Mouse click on the one that catches your eye for more info...

    KANSAS CITY MO
  • The city of St. Peters has a fairly new city owned campground that looks nice.

Babler is also nice, but very popular during the summer.
  • There isn't much in KC area, but there is a city owned RV park at Smithville lake about 20 miles north. Close to highway 169. I think it's called Smiths Fork park. Pretty decent
  • install the app RVparky in your phone, easy to use and full of info that will make your trip easy.
  • In St. Louis, we enjoyed the St Louis West KOA in Eureka. Even though it is outside of the city, it's easy to hop on the interstate and get to the main attractions. I wrote a longer review and have some photos of it here: St Louis West KOA.

We haven't camped in KC since we've had a trailer of our own, but several years ago, we stayed at a really pretty state park outside of town called Watkins Mill. It has historic sites and a trail to explore. We also stayed at the campground at Worlds of Fun, and I remember thinking it was nice (but again that was many years ago).
  • About 30 miles west of the Gateway Arch on I-44 there are a KOA and a Yogi Bear Jellystone RV Parks (in Eureka, MO.) That is also where 6 Flags Over St. Louis is located, so you would probably need to make reservations.
