Campgrounds in or near Bryce and Zion. 40 foot coach

Hey folks. We are planning our fall trip south and want to take in Bryce and Zion. Where do most folks stay for these two places. We are self contained and need no services so are open to all types of Campgrounds. We have a toad so can commute back and fourth to the parks as from what I gather there is no camping within the parks.

Thanks in advance.

  • First a thank you to all for the responses. Angela is investigating and formulating a plan. Seems like there are lots of possibilities.

    Thanks again.

Kodachrome State park is near Bryce. It's a great Campground. You can drive to Bryce from there and take the Bryce Shuttle all over the park. It Free. Ruby's is right at the Bryce entrance and great for Motorhome. The Shuttle stops at Ruby's to take you into Bryce. From Bryce to Zion remember there is a long Tunnel to go into Zion, then a very winding road to go through. There are campground both in Bryce and Zion check the length restrictions.

x2 on Kodachrome basin, but I'd call first on length. We have a 35' trailer and there are only a few spots in Kodachrome basin we can fit into. a 40'MH may be tight. If you call they will likely tell you what spot(s) you can get to. Unless they have done some work in the last few years, Kodachrome Basin has no hookups. Water is available as are showers and they have a dump station. They limited generator use to between something like 1pm-3pm. Kodachrome basin has some great views, hiking trails and great guided walks with the rangers.

And if you plan to go through the tunnel in Zion, check length restrictions. We had to take the long way around from Zion to Bryce since I'm 60+ft overall, way over the length restriction on the tunnel in Zion.

And near Zion west entrance is Zion River Resort in Virgin, right on the river. Very nice and lots of very large spots with good views.
  • Watchman campground inside Zion NP has some large (40 - 50') sites with electric hookups, some right by the Virgin River. Depending on dates, you can book at Reserve America.

The benefit is you can walk to the visitor center from your site and take the free hop-on/off shuttle into the canyon, where cars can't go in season and parking is limited anyway. Shuttle runs constantly and works very well.

  • Howdy!

2X on Ruby's at the entrance of Bryce. We stayed there in our MDT and 45' 5er no problem.

  • We had a great time in the town of Panguitch at The Hitch N Post Campground. We were there one week and was a great hub for the area and real nice, new camp owners.
  • We stay at the Ruby Inn RV camp in Bryce camp ground. Nice camp ground with nice
    location.

We have stayed in several in Zion Park area. We don't like any in the town of Springdale right at the mouth of Zion West entrance. We drive down the road (Highway 9) about 10 minutes to Zion River Resort in Virgin, UT. Located right on Virgin River. It is a very nice clean camp ground which we return often
when we go back to Zion.
