Campgrounds near Chicago

Fish Lake is closer, but is not on (or even near) I-90 - probably slower going (due to the aforementioned traffic) to get to the locations you need to go, though any given day the traffic on the interstates and tollways can be backed up too. Either way, you're a distance out. If some of your group is already booked at Fish Lake, you may want to consider being with them, just for the convenience, though all our other suggestions (IMO) are nicer CGs. Not "stupid" to camp, just less convenient than some other choices. I'd sure rather sleep in my own bed when visiting, if given the choice! Good luck to you & to the team!

Chicago KOA was nice. Great restrooms. Swimming pool. Only issue that I saw was there was no sewer connections on the sites. Had to go to the dump station. Maybe it wasn't like that for all the sites, dunno. Home of my first (and only) dumping accident. Lol

So it sounds like the general consensus is that KOA is closer than Fish Lake? Some of our team has already booked at Fish Lake and I don't want to ask them to cancel unless I have a good idea. Do you think we are stupid for trying to camp? Should we just hotel it? Thanks for all the advice and help. I really appreciate it.

The KOA in Union might be your best bet but 20 minutes to the listed suburbs is not happening. Hoffman & Schaumburg are the closest and probably 30 minutes, it can be another 20 to Arlington Hts depending on where you're going, and Wheeling is another 10 past that. We live right by Arlington Hts and Wheeling so we're very familiar with the area. You'll be driving around during the day and traffic can be a significant factor - these are all fairly large towns with a lot of shopping areas, you'll be on the expressway coming from the CG but after that it's going to be more surface streets with plenty of stop lights. Unfortunately there aren't really any better options - just be prepared to allow plenty of time to get where you're going and make sure you map it all out, can be easy to get turned around. One other note - there has been construction on I-90 for a while, not sure if it's going to be done this summer or not, could definitely add to the time required.

Correct, Paul Wolff does not have FHU's. Electric is good 50 amps, water is central hydrants,no showers, and there is a dump station at the entrance/exit. Sites are first come first served, no reservations. The KOA in Union is a nice park, a little farther out but full service, easy access to I-90. About 20 minutes from Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Wheeling, and Hoffman Estates, depending on day and time. Volo is much further North East and mostly surface streets. When we lived in Schaumburg we stored our MH in Volo and it took us 35-40 minutes to get to the storage yard.

This is probably your best bet, it is the closest! there is another option in Sycamore IL, Sycamore RV Resort.

Close to the KOA is the Union Train Museum.
Fish Lake was always dumpy to us.
