One thing, you better start finding where you want to stay.
Many Public campgrounds will already be booked up for this summer, especially those on the coast and other popular areas.
You might find a private coastal campground with sites still available for this summer.
But you'll have to lucky to find any coastal public campgrounds with any available sites, for more than 1 night.
Not sure what "reasonable price" means to you.
California State Parks` normal price for a basic no-hookups campsite is $35. You get a fire ring and picnic bench with the site.,)
