Camping just north of Oakland California

We live in North East, Maryland. Yes, that is the name of the town and it is not small, we do have TWO traffic lights!

Back to the topic! We are planning to go to Oakland CA, just south of Berkley College, and we are looking for a good place to park our Motorhome while we visit with our grandchildren… oh yeah, our children also!

Can’t seem to find any decent RV campgrounds near that area. Can anyone make any recommendations on where we can stay?

Thanks in advance for any help.
  • We stayed at Anthony Chabot Regional Park just north of Castro Valley. We had full hook-ups and it was a very nice campground, as opposed to an RV park. I see a Charles Lee Tilden Regional Park just north of Berkley and it might be a similar set up. Check out their web sites.
  • Closest park that may take your Motorhome is in San Leandro. Trailer Haven, 2399 E 14th St, San Leandro, CA 94577, PH (510) 357-3235 it is mostly mobile homes and a few RV slots. Nice people, tight spaces, 25 minutes from Emeryville/Berkley. There are a few other places closer but they do not have space for even a 30 ft RV as of Jun-Aug this year. Your best bet is using a AirBnB or check out Craigs list the East Bay for a sublet. You may also try House Sitters America link
  • I used to live in San Jose. There are very few choices:

    KOA in Petaluma, north bay
Pacifica on coast south of San Francisco
Half Moon Bay on coast south of San Francisco
Morgan Hill, south of San Jose
  • I would have your kids go look at several parks, usually only takes a minute to say yes or no, after all it's Oakland.
  • It’s Oakland...no offense. Nearest one that seems nice is in Castro Valley...Anthony Chabot Regional Park. I don’t stop in Bay Area....keep driving to Santa Rosa but that’s too far to visit Oakland.

If by “Berkley College” you mean the University of California at Berkeley, you’ve ticked off 25% of all Californians since the others cheer for USC, UCLA (formerly a “normal” school) or Stanford (a junior university & farm) lol
