There is a RV park in Mendora, ND, right across the road from Theodore Roosevelt National Park which is worth a day if you have time. We took a campsite and drove the park loop before sundown. Drove it again early the next morning before leaving. Buffalo (which you will see in Yellowstone, but here there is no crowd of people with cameras), lots of prairie dogs, and you can see wild horses, sometimes close to the road.
