The whole thing smells weird because it is weird. We live on an island 30 miles off the US New England coast. After a dozen cases the locals went super careful and shut down most everything and for 5 weeks we had zero cases. Then the tourists started, many not being the least bit careful or respectful of others, and now 5 cases in a week. We’re not worried personally because we are vigilant, but we know people who just believe “most” don’t get too sick so they are less careful. Not having a cohesive national response is troubling, we’re just glad the northeast US is mostly on the same page.

What would be your "cohesive national response"? The needs and resources of people who, like you, reside in Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard are vastly different than a 7-11 clerk in Alta, Oklahoma. How long can we require an "essential" grocery store worker making less than $20.00 an hour ($800.00 a week) keep working while a worker who made less gets to stay home an collect the national average of $350.00 a week state unemployment plus the $600.00 federal suppliment for a total of $950.00? Is that at all fair to the guy working 40 hours, taking on risk by having contact with the public only to make $150.00 a week less than the guy siiting on the sofa, safely at home?
The great cohesive national plan has to work for everyone, not just those who have the resources and lack of responsibilities to just wait it out.
