Cape Disappointment, WA

Can someone tell me about the "coastal" sites in the park? Wondering about the views of the ocean. And are they just about next to impossible to get? Is there a day of the week that arrival then would improve your chances? Thx
  • We passed on that one this summer, out of our way and apparently the only access to the water is via a hiking trail. DW has limited mobility so that was out.
  • The "water sites" aren't right on the water. They are close, but you will still need to walk down a short sand trail to actually be on the beach.

Very hard to get...for peak times...Spring Break, and Summer you will need to reserve probably the full 9 months in advance.

We like the circles that are up off the beach. Less windy and still just a short walk to the water.
  • We didn't have an Ocean view site - not sure they have them. No big deal in my book. It's a popular park - reservations is a good idea - midweek and when kids are in school are best times to get in. The only negative we experienced was too many mosquitoes - I am from Oregon where SP tend to spray for mosquitoes so I was unprepared (mosquitoes a big deal to me so I won't be going back).
  • As you have heard Cape Disappointment really doesn't have Ocean View sites however if you do want ocean view sites check out Pacific Beach State Park. You are pretty much on the ocean and the view is directly in front of you. Just exhilarating and beautiful.
  • Here are photos of the campsites but unfortunately they are taken from the road so you can't see what's in front of the site. It will give you a good idea of the site, in general, though. If you click on a picture it gives you the Site #. Go to the reservation site for the park and pick out one that shows near the beach for comparison.
