Castaways, Maryland, in the off season?

Has anyone been here lately? I am just wondering what there is to do in the area this time of year and if there are good places to eat nearby? Thank you! I have never camped in the area and we do not have a toad.
  • The rack rate for Castaways is very expensive. Not in our budget range nor do we need all of the things that come with the CG.

We have been there a few times in September for a bluegrass festival. That was good.

Thanks all! Right now my main concern is just being able to be able to go out without a toad.

If you plan on using their shuttle, I would double check with them about the shuttle running 6 times a day in the off season.

  • Castaways has changed hands, so expect rates to climb again. Sites are small, but hey, it's the beach.
  • We just came back from Castaways, opening weekend, second night was free. Otherwise the resort is too expensive. Frontiertown is 5 minutes away, second night free, month of April. All other times, DE Seashore State Park, 40 minutes away, is the best deal.

In that case I am sure you would have a great time. You can see the ponies at Assategue right across the water from the park.
  • I would also add that until Memorial Day, many restaurants are only open on weekends. There are plenty of them though.

  • We've camped at Castaways a couple of times off season. It's a really nice CG, and has a nice play area for kids. There is a pool and a small beach. Ocean City Boardwalk is fairly close, but you would have to drive there. We would never go there in the summer.....they are incredibly expensive.
