Morro Bay State Park is great with full hook-ups.
The Morro Bay State Park RV hook up area has water and 30 amp only. If you over stay your holding tank there is a free dump in the park.
Morro Dunes is a private campground almost on the beach at the dead end of Hwy 41 and has full hookups. Morro Strand campground is about 500 feet east of the beach on Hwy 41 and also has full hookups.
Out of those three, which do you like best?
We like the Morro Bay State Park. Distance from where we store our trailer to the park is about 2 miles. We've camped there several times just to feel like we've left town for a couple days.
Sites are close but the last time we were there the bushes mostly screened each site so it was semi private. Hiking/exercise trail with work out stations, plenty of room for kids on bikes or on foot. Small marina with a great little restaurant right across the street (very easy walk).
Road is two lane that mainly feed the marina/golf course and an alternate route from Los Osos to Morro Bay. Traffic is light during the day to almost non existant at night. Weather is cool enough most of the time you won't need air conditioning. If the marine layer is in, jackets are recommended. Time of year is key. You may be out of luck this summer as sites are usually reserved well in advance. There are no-shows but wouldn't count on one becoming available.
Never really camped at the other two. Morro Dunes is mostly asphalt sites that are close together. Nice local people own it and keep it well maintained. Lots of people from Fresno and Bakersfield keep RVs in the storage area as the management will set it up in a site with a couple days advanced notice. Been around for 40 years.
Morro Strand is the other private campground. Next to the high school, gravel sites, full hookups and about 500 feet east of Morro Dunes. There are two sides to the campground, one is larger and has the gravel, the one across the street is all asphalt and more of a parking lot with hookups. There is a small park with a couple of baseball fields adjacent to this section of the park.
In the spirit of full discllosure, the city sewer plant is adjacent to Morro Dunes and about 200 feet from Morro Strand.
Do not confuse this Morro Strand from the Morro Strand State Park that is on the north side of the town about a mile from these two. No hook ups but right on the beach or at least a sand dune away.
