- Bob806Explorer III+1 for Wilderness. We stayed at Lakeshore once, and it's way too tight IMHO (the park is clean, owners are fine, but there is no privacy between sites).
I paid $30 for an out-of-state Michigan Parks pass, I didn't think it was unreasonable. - VeebyesExplorer IIDone both. Wilderness when there was still ice along the shore & we had the whole CG to ourselves.
Did Straits more middle of summer. Nice CG. - CdashExplorerStraits and Wildness are both nice. Straits will get you a little more highway noise from the bridge, but gives you great views of the bridge and the island. Wilderness is a little ways away and more secluded with pretty views. All depends on your desire. Most Michigan state parks are pretty nice. There was a change in fee structure a few years back that really opened up some money for improvements.
- Pirate1ExplorerMI state parks are excessively expensive for out of state residents if you are in a MH and have a toad. I think it put me to around $50 bucks, and that was for the lousy I-75 noisy spots at straits state park. I now avoid all MI state parks.
- FloridaNative49ExplorerNeat! Thnx
- jim_ishamExplorerThis website will take you any of the state parks in Michigan including Straits and Wilderness. You'll be able to see pictures of each campsite.
Straits and Wilderness State parks - southernskyExplorerWe stayed at Lakeshore Park Campground. Nice quiet park in St.Ignace on the lake. There was free shuttle service from campground to docks for boats going to the island. http://lakeshoreparkcampground.com/
- FloridaNative49Explorer$9/ day or $31/annual
Thnx. I'll ck out Wilderness SP - michigansandzilExplorer

What do you think of Straits State Park? Tips on the Non-Resident add-ons, passes.
Also see Tiki RV? Would you stay on St. Ignace side or Mackinac City side? Heading up toward Aune Osborne and Sault Ste Marie after this. Thnx.
I'm not sure what you mean about non-resident add-ons? You will need to pay for your stay along with purchasing a passport ticket for all of MI state parks; it's affordable, only $15 maybe.
I have not stayed at Straits State Park but I have only heard good things about it. I would stay there.
Would I stay on the St. Ignace UP or Mackinaw City LP side? It depends on what you're looking for. If you like touristy areas, then you should go to Mackinaw City. If you want the more natural up north feel, then you should go to St. Ignace. Both sides have ferries over to Mackinac Island.
Honestly, I'd go to Wilderness State Park if I was trying to visit the area. It's about 20 minutes from the City/ferry and the campground is right on Lake Michigan. Try to get a site on the lakeside, phenomenal sunsets. It was one of our favorite camping trips.
Fort Michilimackinac is worth stopping by if you like forts. It's as nice as Fort Mackinac but without the crowds. Leave your rig at your site when you see it. It's directly under the bridge on the LP side.
