Charleston, Sc- help!

Hello!

My husband and I are about to embark on our first fifth wheel adventure. I'm a travel nurse and he stays at home working with computers. Although I've booked my first month at James Island State park, I'm absolutely appalled at the prices. 1400 before a winter discount and about 1200 after the discount?! For the winter? I know CHarleston is a popular area but I'm so baffled and feel as though all of the other places were just as expensive. I feel like we wont be able to save like we had planned and even though I'm only going to be working there for three months, I can already feel my wallet quivering!

We don't have solar panels yet, we're just starting out. And it seems even boondocking is limited to 14 days at a time. Does anyone know where I could go more long term that's more affordable? Even if it means buying some panels and charging them in the beginning to get us going. It just makes me sick to shovel out more money than I paid for my mortgage before we sold our house!

I also need to stay within the immediate area due to being on call. Any help would be appreciated!

  • yes @dezl_dr but its usually just 10%. We even got a winter 30% discount at James Island and its still over 1000. Maybe I'm just being ignorant but I'm shell shocked.

I did email hawthorne city mobile park- it said their rates are just over 200 a month but it didnt mention hook ups or anything. we may just have to stick it out a few months and then go somewhere where we can stay for cheap and build up our savings again!
  • Are you a Good Sam's member? Might get you a little more of a discount....just a thought.
  • Thanks rv2go! I saw that but didn't realize it was a place I could stay - I guess I assumed it was like a trailer park for residents or something. Will look into it!
  • @pipers family,

We've looked into Lake Aire. I found through Passport America that I could get it for half off as well. Very hesitant due to some bad reviews that mention mosquitoes, flooding, and mud. At the very least we could go there for our second month!

Not sure I understand that sentence.
  • I would check out the mobile home parks in the area.
Looks like Trailmore Park((843) 556-1642) has a few RV's parked there.
