Not familiar with the area around Charleston SC. I’m looking for a CG within about 30 mins of Charleston. FHU preferred but W.E. will suffice. Looking to do some sight seeing in Charleston but would also like to checkout other near by areas. Looked at RVParkReviews but as I stated, I’m not familiar with the area so would like a few suggestions from experienced RVers. Thank for your help and safe travels.

A strong second for James Island! Our favorite spots are:17,37,39,98&99.

James Island for a TT X 3. 5th wheel you will have to watch for low hanging oak tree limbs.

X4 for James Island County Park, and I live in the Charleston area; however, bring bug spray and plenty of bottled water during the summer because it is humid and hot; the park is not far from Folly Beach, too. Historical peninsula of Charleston is a "walking" area, streets very small, find a good parking area next to the Visitors Center; free trolley will pick you up if you get tired of walking.

X5Very close to civilization but doesn't feel that way. Awesome biking trails, paved. Very close and easy to get to anywhere around Charleston. Great campground to take kids. We went last year in June and immediately booked for June 2021 as soon as we got home. Taking a couple grandkids this year. Only downside is some sites flood after a heavy downpour. Rode our bikes around after a storm and picked good sites for future trips. 29, 110, 75. 29 is a drive thru and is the best in my opinion. We stayed in 75 last year and it was a pretty good site, but it flooded.

We stayed at James Island County Park Campground in September 2019 for my Navy Ship reunion. All FHU,shaded sites. Camp store,paved trails for walking or bike riding. They have a huge dog park with a beach just for dogs.They also have a water park for kids.

The Ladson KOA is a dump adjacent to a real dumpy trailer park. If you can’t get into James Island County Park, then you should try Oak Plantation on US 17 just west of downtown. Traffic on 17 makes it hard to head toward town with no traffic signal so we usually turn right out of the campground, turn right on Main road to Bees ferry turn right back to US 17 on Glen Mcconel parkway or I 526.

We stayed at James Island County Park for July 4th last year! It is a great campground! We will certainly visit it again!

Been to many places and sometimes don't remember correctly. It was an easy drive to Charleston and we enjoyed it......

Ferndaleflyer, that little area for that KOA is called "Ladson" on US Highway 78. Not too far off of an I-26 interchange. Historical Charleston peninsula is about 18 miles away from that KOA.

We spent a week there last summer at KOA in Laden. We drove into town parked the Smart car, rode boats, carriages, walked, and drove Smart 450mi checking everything around there. Nice place.

We hit Charleston in early March every year on the way home from Florida. Its usually in the mid 60's, occasionally it'll hit 70. Late April would probably be better for a little warmer weather without it being too hot and humid.

Mt Pleasant KOA is actually closer to old Charleston than James Island even if you have to cross the Ravenell Bridge.
