Charlotte NC area

Hi All,
My hubby is flying out of Charlotte NC in June. We have never been in the State. Can anyone recommend any Rv parks. Looking for something no further out than an hour from Airport, full hook ups for 36 ft and 33 ft motorhomes, pet friendly, laundry facilities and a pool would be nice but not a deal breaker.
Thanks
Kim & Ed

KOA in Statesville, as well as Tom Johnson's campground at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
  • I just made a reservation at a campground that I've never been to but has good reviews on rvparkreviews.com. It's Cross Winds Family Campground. Google Maps has it 56 miles from the airport. There might be something closer to the airport that fits your needs.
I'll be going in mid-April and try to remember to reply with my thoughts on the campground.
  • There's a KOA in Fort Mill, SC...probably the closest one to the airport fitting your needs.

Been to Crosswinds to visit some forum members. It was ok. Nothing fancy. But I think you will be closer to an hour and a half. There is construction going on in the Concord area of I 85 and it will slow you way down.
  • There is also Camp Carowinds... maybe 20 minutes to the airport.. If your there for a day or so , it will be good ,especially if the kids get a chance to hit the amusement park....

See the posting about the Carowinds park and the pics. In June, you will be paying over $62/night at the Carowinds one. Fort Mill KOA is about $16/night cheaper.
  • There are no children traveling with us. We are not interested in visiting an Amusement park. We like to ride bikes, have a nice place to walk dogs, do a little shopping and eat out occasionally. We probably won't do much sightseeing till my hubby flies back. I'm still searching for a place to stay.
Thanks for the suggestions already mentioned. Does anyone else know of any place within an hours drive of the airport in Charlotte NC?

  • Check out Ebenezer City Park on Rock Hill SC. We stayed there a week or 2 ago visiting family in CLT. Very nice. Better than the KOA. Excellent wifi. Good bike riding and dog walking. They now take reservations for many sites.

There is Lake Norman Coach Motorcoach Resort, althought they do allow 5th wheels and travel trailers. It's well landscaped and manicured and on Lake Norman. Across the street is Linebergers restaurant. A good steak place. The Rv Park is about 5-8 miles from decent shopping in Mooresville. Also, great other places to eat. Depending on the type ofg bike riding you would like to do, I cna give you some recommendations seperately on that. Are you looking for trails, greenway type riding, road biking? This puts you 31.4 miles from the airport. Google maps says 37 minute drive. And to be honest, being able to go down Hwy 16 to I485 to the airport will be an easy commute.
  • wbwood - we are leisurely bike riders. We like to keep on paved roads for the most part. :)
I will look into the RV park you mentioned and would appreciate any other suggestions you might want to share. Never been to this area.
    Thanks
