IMO private CGs are much the same wherever you go, sites close together, barely long enough, usually near highways, near fast food & trinket outlets & costly.
We spent 5 days at Smokemont, within Smokey Mtn NP, loop F I think it was. Lots of sites, well spaced & more than long enough for a large 5er. Many back right on a beautiful creek.
Trouble for many, who must have all of the conveniences of modern life, this is dry camping. Even worse...there is NO cell service here!!!! It is tucked up in a deep side valley. Nearest signal is 4 miles away.
However, if you want to get the flavour of the Smokey Mtns a CG like this is the place to be. It is one of the few that can handle large rigs.
You need to get out more. Not all private CGs are like that. In fact the ones we go to are quite remote, and have spacious sites.
BTW. Happy holiday has good sized sites as well.
But then we rarely camp in the Smoky MTS. Too commercial. We go up on the BRP. Quite, peace full, cool in the summer. COLD in the winter. Away from the world, and we go over thru Saluda. You just go to nowhere.... and turn left. And you are there.
