Chiricahua NM has a very nice campground and is close by. Small RV's only IIRC. We haven't made it to the stronghold.
I think that you are confusing Ft. Apache with Ft. Bowie and, even then, it is quite a distance (about 60 miles to the pass and 2 hours) from Cochise Stronghold.
