COE

I would get the book Camping with the Corps.
There is so many spread out across the country. I like to think we have the most here in Washington.

Which state has the most COE parks per thousand square miles may be a better question. 10 COE parks in Texas (268,500 sq miles) would be a lot different than 10 COE parks in Kansas (82,000 sq miles) or Rhode Island (1,200 sq miles).

What difference does it make which state has the most?

I don't think there is a list, I've looked online and never found one. The COE has awful websites, very hard to find anything on them. I refuse to buy that book tho, I hear it has no info not found online at Rec.gov. I know OK has a lot of COE parks which almost makes up for their horrible roads. FL only has two. In general following the major rivers will show you the COE parks the Mississippi, Missouri and other big rivers have dams and that's where the parks are. More east of the Rockies and few west. But you have Bureau of Reclamation dams to the west but not as many.

We stayed at 14 this summer so far and reservations for one of the FL in October. We did several others last summer but not as many.

What difference does it make which state has the most?

1) COE are some of the nicest.
2) I get my discount on top of they usually have the lowest price.
3) Except for Saturday night during the summer there are almost always open sites.
4) I can make reservations for my site while I'm in the park (no advance reservation required).
5) By having the most, means I have to travel the least to get from one park to the other.

I don't know which one has the most, but know South Dakota has zero COE parks. When COE was threatening to close them down a few years back, the state took over all the COE parks.

Travel is why I have an RV. COE parks are nice but I don’t travel based on COE CG availability.

Even with all that we just came off 7 weeks of lakefront camping across NC and GA. :)

Why would that be important?

I thought it would be fun to go camp one night at each COE cgs somewhere in Arkansas, Kansas or Kentucky? I think Kentucky has a lot of COE? We are retired and been traveling for 14 years. We usually stay gone 2-3 weeks at a time, mostly at USFS cgs. We are free from work and schedules.

The Ultimate Public Campgrounds Project app can be filtered so it only shows COE campgrounds. While the AllStays app can do the same, I find the Ultimate Public list better for non commercial campgrounds.

Just use the hotspot on your phone, I did that sitting at the gate of one of the Mobile district parks.
