Collier Seminole SP. and Koresean SP improvements

Does anyone know what specific improvements are being made to Collier Seminole SP? I understand that in April Koresean SP will be closing for campground improvements. Both are a short distance from where I live and would be great places for weekend getaways. Just curious, I know can probably call both parks to find out but was hoping someone here may know. Thanks.
  • Interesting that you think they may re-open soon. I hope you are correct, as I'd like to visit in the fall. Please post if you hear that reservations might reopen.
  • Yep, that's pretty accurate. I pretty much check in there every couple of weeks. The folks at the gate are provided zero information as to progress or timing. The state's sense of time and communication sure does suck. But the work is nearing completion!

Jack is wrong. New utilities (W&E) to sites. Interior roads regraded. As of yesterday, they are about 60% done with new gravel on all sites. Restroom bldg not yet done but anticipated to be finished by mid April. Jack says "CS is no farther [sic] along then [sic] it was a year ago." A year ago the campground was open at this time and no improvements had even been started. Hyperbole at best.

I certainly would agree that FL does not have its act together as it respects construction planning for this park. It was two years ago that the park stopped taking reservations because "construction would start anytime now" and they didn't want to cancel folk's reservations. So it was first come, first serve. And so it has been a bit over 2 yrs since this park has taken reservations and it has been completely closed for camping since late summer 2015. While to snowbirds, it might seem strange that the campground would be closed during the snowbird season, there are people who come to FL at other times as well and the native FL population gets to use the public and private cgs, restaurants etc. during the summertime when the state otherwise empties out.

OK, my first statement should have read, "they should have been finished a year ago, and they should be ashamed for dragging their feet as they have been doing"

Hope that will make you feel a little better.

  • Collier Seminole is no farther along then it was a year ago.
They cut down a bunch of trees.
The are attempting to build a new rest room building (several years under construction now)
a lot of grading, and that is it.

If I was a Florida resident, I would be questioning where the kick backs are going ???

  • The FSP system is terrible at planning improvements, securing funding and communicating improvements.
  • I'm just a few miles from CS SP and the last time I drove in was 2 wks ago. On site staff does not have current info on progress or even much info on what's being done. Drive through show some repairs and improvements to water and elec utilities and grading though the grading may be as a result of running utilities vs. actual drainage improvements. Time will tell on that. Also looks like some work being done on the interior of the bathhouses but I've not gotten out to look
  • Not sure if this helps. We stayed at Collier Seminole in February 2015. Rangers said improvements were dependant on budget changes, what had been "planned" for may not occur in the near future.

Electric and bathhouse upgrades were anticipated, other improvements were in question. I did not ask what the other improvements were.
  • I know they were making improvements but I see nothing on the park webpage:

    CSSP

So perhaps the work is done. There is a phone number on that webpage, give them a call to check.

We've camped there a couple times and it is a great location to expore the western glades
