North Platte is home to the largest train yard in the world. It has a tower you can go up in to view the yard. Kind of cool, especially if your like trains at all.
I've only taken 36 into Estes Park and had no problems. Roads are wide enough with multiple pull outs. We love Estes Park and wouldn't dream of doing Estes and not staying in Estes. The road up to the Visitor Center at the top of RMNP is a great drive...in a car.
We have taken the RV down the 7/72/119 route down to I-70 from Estes. It's a decent road with that has some downhills into Nederland and Black Hawk. Avoid taking the Central City Parkway out of Black Hawk as it does have a very steep grade coming out of Central City. Just stay on 119 to I70.
There's a ton to see and do all along the front range so it's a matter of what interests you and how much time you have. There are lot's of places on that 7/72/119 to pull out and just enjoy the scenery of take a hike. Rollinsville is a tiny little town, but west of it is a very pretty drive up to the Moffat Tunnel for the rail line along South Boulder Creek. The tunnel is the end point for cars but four wheel drive people choose to continue up the road higher up the mountains. Both drives are pretty but only the first part is an easy drive on well maintained dirt road. Other points of interest along your path: Great Sand Dune NP, Red River NM, for horse lovers there's the American Quarter Horse Museum in Amarillo and if you do Palo Duro which is a little SE of Amarillo you can catch the show "Texas" in the evening.
Hope this helps. Have a great trip!
