I've been researching any laws I can find regarding the requirement to inform the consumer, on the phone, of the cancellation policies. I agree, it's something that SHOULD be done, but I've not found the law yet that states that when making a reservation on the phone, the business MUST inform consumer of the cancellation policy.
Informed consent appears to be pretty much associated with medical procedures. Im still researching though... Again, not saying they shouldn't do that, as a matter of course, but not sure they are REQUIRED by LAW to do so.
At some point, consumer has some responsibility to do his/her own due diligence. Making reservations, and leaving deposits, to include credit card info, is a way of life. Any consumer who's done this more than once in his/her lifetime knows that each business has their own cancellation policies, and they can change based on high occupancy season etc...
