This is ultimately the answer. I still will make reservations occasionally in high demand periods. But I make them far less often than I did when I first started RVing. Entire long trips reservation-free. Allows more travel flexibility as well as minimizes deposit loss.

It's an RV'ing learning curve.
Especially once you find out that you can pull into almost any CG after hours even at 12 or 1 o'clock in the morning! Most leave a front row/a couple of sites open for 'travelers'. Just pull in and park.
At the entrance/office there is either a drop box for payment or a note that usually says pull in and pay us in the morning. :C
