JFNM - We've done the Columbine/Rainbow Trail by parking at the Columbine Trailhead, then riding up CR 49 until we hit the Rainbow Trail. From there, we rode NW back to Columbine and went down Columbine to the car. While steep in places, it was easier climbing up the road than Columbine Trail.
We used to ride up Fall River Road to the Alpine Visitors Center in RMNP. From there, it's still almost two miles to the high point of Trail Ridge Road (12,193'). Then, it's all down hill for 17 miles and over 3500' of elevation drop. Not much air at 12,000'!
