We will be meeting friends for a week in Estes Park beginning Sept 23. Got a chance to head out a few days early so almost to the Colorado line and wanting input on where you'd go near Estes if you had an extra 5 days. We would love a quiet campground on a lake to chill and use as a base for day trips to sightsee, hike, and explore. Any of your favorite RV parks fit that?

Golden Canyon SP - http://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/GoldenGateCanyon/Pages/Camping.aspx
Golden Clear Creek - https://rec.cityofgolden.net/wbwsc/webtrac.wsc/wbsplash.html?wbp=3
Buena Vista then up?
Peak to Peak - Town of Golden - Boulder - Might look at KOA in/Casinos/Central City - is cold now in the mountains.
For the best of everything I'd look at Buena Vista Twin Lakes - then a couple Day Trips to surrounds - RT 82, Independence Pass - to Maroon Bells - Collegiates - RT 24 Leadville to Minturn/Red Cliff/ Camp Hale - just about as good as it gets right Now for Aspen and drives/Hikes.
Hope this helps - Buena Vista and Surrounds would be Number 1
What he said. Lived in Estes for 31 years. After we retired, we moved to Buena Vista to escape the gridlock, chaos and crowds in Estes Park. You'll not find a quiet place near EP during fall color/elk rut season.
