To many, tourists are like the IRS, they understand why they are necessary, and you have to treat them with respect, but you still don't like them always at your doorstep.
What an interesting comment to compare the IRS that generally is trying to take away your money or whatever part they think is theirs to a tourist that is providing money, allowing for jobs, and will leave after they deposit that money into the local or state
economy. I am not on board with the IRS comparison. However, I can understand that tourists have an expectation of some value for the (typically) discretionary money they will leave behind. And employees and residents can sometimes resent the attitude of some tourists and be just as glad to see them go after they have spent their money. And a few tourists tend to bring their local home issues and attitudes with them instead of just trying to enjoy the new
places they see and experience. So, I get it. And I live in a state that a large part of the economy is tourism.
