Colorado residents don't want tourists anymore

Not sure if this is the right place, but I just read in the Denver Post that Colorado residents (I know RVers are not in this group) are beginning to resent all us vacationers that come to the state to spend our hard earned money. We're using to many of their hiking trails, putting too much strain on the Parks, and causing too much traffic problems.

I was kind of wondering what would happen if we could all agree on the year and just go some place else that would appreciate our money for 12 months. I'm sure that as many Texans we see here if they all stayed home it would sure make someone sit up and take notice.

And all the hunters. Think how much money all the out-of-state hunters must bring into the state every year. Just all us Forum members might not be noticed but if someone who knew how could post it on Tweeter or Facebook it might really be noticed.

Don't take me wrong, I love the State and have been coming here on vacation once or twice a year for over 50 years from Oklahoma but I do like to be appreciated considering all the money I've left in the state over the years.

Just hope I'm not stepping on too many toes here.
  • Let's not be too hard on Colorado. It's the home of Coors. :C

I'm curious. Give us a link/clicky as the basis for your post.
  • I wouldn't believe much of what the Denver Post prints!
  • You get the same attitude in just about any state that is popular with tourists. Florida for one. I don't mind them visiting but the ones who stay are overcrowding the state. Their money diffuses thru the state, you don't have to directly deal with them to get some of those benefits.

Interesting California and Nevada spend lots of money on advertising trying to get more visitors to their states. If Colorado does not want you there are places that will gladly take your tourism money. And outside of Las Vegas and Reno/Tahoe there is not a busy crowded road in all the rest of the 110,540 square miles of Nevada including one of the least visited national parks.

I also suspect places in Colorado like Leadville, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Pagosa Springs, Cortez, etc. are much less anti tourism than the Denver area.
  • Nice idea but, I can't see it working.
It's like the old 'let's screw the gas companies by not buying gas nationwide for a day' theory.

People will still go on vacation to Colorado. And less RVers will make everything less crowded and more appealing to other vacationers.
Which will probably attract more people to Colorado.

RVers who enjoy Colorado will continue to visit, in spite of your personal vendetta or views.

Maybe all non-residents should stay off the Pennsylvania highways. It would make my local driving much easier. :)
  • As a native Coloradoan, I get zero of your money, and quite frankly, it wouldn't bother me a bit if the tourists stayed home. The real problem is that there are just too many people these days, ad I know I'm part of the problem when I visit other states.
  • Nothing new about that attitude, try reading Edward Abbey's book, Desert Solitaire, for the full treatment. He also coined the term 'Industrial Tourism'. It's the Sierra Club Philosophy.
