We had planned out a nice "1st time" trip to Colorado, based in Cheyenne Mtn State Park at Colorado Springs. Had stops in Des Moines (Prairie Flower Rec area..HIGHLY RECOMMEND), North Platte, NE (Holiday RV park), Cheyenne Mtn (5 days), then Paxico, KS, then home.We ended up staying at Prairie Flower for 2 nights...and cancelling the rest...got a call after setting up in Des Moines that my grandmother (92) was near the end. And, the next day, she passed.No regrets though...family comes first...we were home and glad to be there. After the funeral, we put the food back in the TT fridge and headed to Clinton Lake (Clinton, IL) and stayed 3 nights before heading back to work. Sad but that is life! I will say this was our second attempt to go to Colorado...still can't make it out of Iowa! (first attempt is another story all together!!!!)

So sorry to hear about your second attempt to make it to Colorado but,as they say,the third time is a charm. There will be a third time won't there? Colorado is so worth it. Sorry,too,about your grandmother. Family does come first and you honor her memory with that acknowledgement. Blessings!

In September of 2011 we had a long trip planned. Our first week-end was at Gunnison, Colorado and from there we were going to Cheyenne Mountain State Park before heading on up to South Dakota, North Dakota, over to Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and home.On the way from Gunnison to Cheyenne Mountain we became more and more concerned about wildfires here in East Texas. After calling a friend who was here in our small town, we decided to turn South at Pueblo and come straight home. The fires were within about five miles, but got no closer. Still, it was the only wise decision.Fortunately, in 2012 we picked up and made the very trip we had planned the year before, and we had a great time.So I hope you will not give up on Colorado, and Cheyenne Mountain is one of the greatest campgrounds we've ever visited.

So sorry for your loss but Colorado will be there for another time.Last year a friends passing forced us to abort a trip to the west coast & divert to Colorado instead, Boulder. Thats the way things go sometimes.

Our prayer are with you. Know exactly how it feels. Back in 09' my dad passed away 2 days before we was to leave on our annual trip to see our DD up in the San Juan's. Dad was my hero.. 1 of the 3 roughest times of my life. The other 2 were my son's passing & mom's passing.

We lived in CO 1995-2003 and back 4 time since; and will be back again in Sept. It is beautiful but, as has been said, it will be there for you.

Been to Colorado several times and it's beautiful. Do not worry; you'll make it sooner or later and it'll still be beautiful. Safe travels.

Am sorry for your loss will keep good thoughts for your family There are times that I wish I had my grandmothers attitude. She was a head cook at our school so she had summers off and after grandpa died. Every summer her and one of her friends would go on a bus trip for three weeks, I think she made it to every state in the lower 48 plus Hawaii and even a month in Europe. Every time she left she told mom and dad don't hold the funeral I will go to the cemertary when I get back. She had a huge family ten sisters and one brother and they were all close. But they all had that wanderlust to see what was over the next hill. They all loved to travel and went whenever the opptunity struck.

I bought a new Trailmanor back in March, we were on our first shake out trip before a three week trip to Utah. But, after one night in the trailer, I realized she was not well, went home, and took her to the doctors. She died two months later. I cancelled the trip to Utah, but as sad as I was to lose my mom, my mourning was not complicated by regrets or guilt.

Sorry for your loss.

Back in the late 1980's my wife and I made our first trip to Disney with our five kids. We were on a tight budget and took Amtrak from NY to FL. We had planned for a week but two days into the trip I got a call that my father had passed and early the following morning we flew back to NY. Unfortunately the airline charged us premium prices for the tickets with no consideration for the circumstances.

So sorry about your grandmother. You did the right thing. Colorado isn't going anywhere any time soon.

We had attempted a trip to Newfoundland about 15 years or so ago. Weather wasn't good and the ferries stopped running for a few days. Wound up staying in Nova Scotia instead. So as the saying goes, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade!
