We spent June - Aug. '09 criss-crossing that state.
Rocky Mt. NP is a must. Their state parks are all super facilities, but you will probably want reservations if your there during the summer. They are among some of the best we have ever stayed in.
The Incline Railroad up to Pikes Peak is great fun. Take the drive - in your care, NOT the RV - up Mt. Evans. Mountain goats and sheep everywhere.
The advice we got was to stop in one spot and then wagon wheel out from there with your car. Much easier to do that because of the mountains and then move yourself to the next hub and repeat.
