Colter Bay RV Park - Tetons

Anyone been there and know if their 45' max lengths listed on recreation.net are hard and fast? Looking at the pics, the ones listed with that length look longer.

I ask because our fifth wheel is 36' long and Dodge Ram truck has 8' bed, thus, to hitch its 52'.

Getting a site there is an ordeal, and I've tried numerous days, but my timing hasn't been good, thus I keep striking out.

Other locations that could accomodate us would be appreciated.

Thanks

Edit - I was finally successful in reserving a site...its listed at 45', which is their max listed on any site.
  • We stayed at Coulter Bay 5 years ago and our site accommodated our 32 ft. fifth wheel easily. It was a pull through with easy access. I do recall that I had to block the road when hooking up the trailer. Very nice facility.

In one site, an end site, was a 45 ft. diesel Pusher with a paint matched enclosed car trailer still hooked up which housed the man's Corvette. I was impressed until I saw the vette didn't match the paint scheme of the other rigs!

Length is for the RV unit only not the total towing length

I was thinking that too back when I started looking into this, but here's what they say in the FAQs on recreation.gov:

    "Maximum RV/Trailer Length
If the RV and trailer length listed on the campsite are the same length, then the trailer length is accounting for the tow vehicle as well as the actual trailer. If the RV and trailer length listed on the campsite are different (like the trailer length is smaller than the RV length), the trailer length is not accounting for the tow vehicle."

Almost all the sites have same max length equipment listed for all types. This one, actually has no lengths listed, but driveway is shown at 45'...which is same as the ones that have 45' max RV & trailer lengths.
  • Hi mleekamp

Thanks for the info! Do you happen to remember which site you were in? Did they give ya a quiz about vehicle size at check in?

I got site 404. We're 13'3" tall to top of A/C (only 1). I can't tell if we'll fit under the trees or not.

I'm somewhat leery of calling and saying, yeah, we're 52' long, can we fit in a 45' space. I can imagine the thoughtless response being 'no'. I may end up doing that, but hoping to get more info here first.

Heres the site I got...there were 6 avail this AM...gone in the blink of an eye. This ones in a less congested area, so maybe access will be better.

Many places (if not Most) list a limit, which is for the Camping unit, ie; 5er, MH,TT or whatever, as in many cases you can shorten the total length by backing the overhang off the back of the site, and unhooking the tv, however many times the restrictions are because of trees and narrow interior roads and getting in & out of the sites.
  • Hi d-mac,

We stayed at Coulter Bay Rv park with a GMC x-cab/shortbed, and a 29'10" travel trailer, where our total length was about 49'. It was TIGHT. Let me explain. While the length of some sites are certainly long enough for me (with the truck/trailer set up i had) and you, the key is the TREES. The entire RV park is under the pines, smells of pine (which is great!), and can be tricky to pull into/out of your site. I struggled both ways due to other sites and their rigs and/or trucks being at the edge of their site. As you know towing, sometimes you need to swing out to pull in. Hard to do here.

So while I can't comment on 52' length you have, maybe call the management office and ask about the length.

For other rV parks, the Fireside Buffalo Valley RV park on 26, just east of Moran might do. Still an easy drive to Tetons. Also, there are parks around Jackson WY to the south.

With our current set up (Class C) I know I could get in/out okay, but still, the trees make it tight...but WORTH it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
