Congree National Park

May not be spelled correctly.
I didn't know it existed, until this evening watching Aerial America.
South of Colombia, South Carolina.
Last stand of Old Growth flood plain forest.
Anyone been there?
RV Park?
Notable sites?
Things to do?
  • We've been there twice. It's a little hard to find but if you watch your maps closely it's doable. Nice visitor center. A 1-1.5 mile board walk trail thru the forest. Big trees, wish they had them identified more throughly. On second trip river was flooding so part of lower section of boardwalk was closed.
  • I only know of it from my National Parks book. Never been there but it's on my "to do list" when we visit Myrtle Beach and Fort Sumter.

The book says that summer is not a good time to visit. It's hot, humid and buggy. Best time to visit is between fall and spring. Also says that the park is best for day trips. The "Owl Prowl" and "Canoe Tour" are very popular ranger programs but usually require advanced reservations.

    Have fun!
  • Have not been there since it became a national park. It has some nice boardwalk walks and trails. Can be very wet when the river is up. According to the nps.gov site no RV camping. Nice nature museum.
