We enjoyed our stay in the area too. You are absolutely right about the water at the beach, its disgustingly dirty. No way would I let kids swim in it. There is not much to do in the immediate area so that means its quiet. Its an easy drive to Galveston if you want some excitement. We stayed at the Bolivar Peninsula RV park. I would go back there.
