- NORM_WADDELLExplorerI have stayed several times on Dauphin Island.
(The Dauphin is the oldest son of the French king)
There are 2 campgrounds on the island......one old
large 'public' and one new very small private.
The public one is usually preferred, and there is a
small amount of shade. No pool . The private one
has NO shade, but has a small pool. There is NO
entertainment on the island, except swimming and surf
fishing. There is a small, well stocked grocery store,
and a few restaurants.....2 gas stations. A fun ferry
runs back and forth to Gulf Shores across Mobile Bay.
It's a LONG trip back toward Mobile for major shopping,
so take what you need. Surf is suitable, but not as
clean as the water further east at Gulf Shores and Pensacola.
There are charter fishing trips, and an old fort to tour.
P M me for more. - joloooteExplorerBe careful when reaching into dark places to make hookup connections. They have Black Widow spiders there.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIGeez. You can find black widows all across the country.
- FunnyCamperExplorer IIare there waterfront sites available in either cg?
how far is the beaches from the campsites?
just wondering. this place sounds nice/interesting and if the water location is good from the cg, the might be worth a trip for us.
any info is appreciated on the beach situation. thanks - NORM_WADDELLExplorerNo waterfront camping sites at either campground.
At the public campground, the gulf is about a long block
walk, down a raised boardwalk, from the campground.
This campground is across the street from the ferry
to Gulf Shores...............drive on or walk on,
at a fee. It has a website under Dauphin Island ferry.
The private campground is across the street from the
public beach. It has 12 campsites. Google Dauphin
Island and you can see the layout of the island,
including the no-toll bridge to the mainland. - RayUSMCExplorerThats my kind of spot.
