Death Valley questions

Hi,
Thinking to head to Death Valley Np tomorrow. Any suggestions about the least crowded rv campground there in the park? 30’ TT. We can be fully self contained. Some people have suggested we don’t go.?? But I feel our contact with people can be limited.
Also, any other parks to visit and stay in on route from Santa Cruz, or near Death Valley? Thx
  • I like to stay for a couple of nights at Stovepipe Wells and then move to Sunset or Texas Spring. Doubt you’ll find any hookups in the park without reservations.
  • I like Texas Springs for no generators. Sunset usually has lots of space to be off by yourself a bit.
  • You can boondock in the Park. All of the campsites are open and close together. Not appealing. The West Side Road is dirt by you could take a trailer out there.
  • We stayed 2months ago at a place called The Slabs. It was an old site for workers now abandoned but now used for boondocking. Cement pads all still there and big enough for our 40' Rv.
Southern entrance and only a few miles into a visitor center.
  • Thanks everyone. We held off a few days and decided to go to pinnacles instead which is closer and open. But I will save these tips for when we do go :)

Bathrooms at the Pinnacles are closed due to staffing. Make sure to make other arrangements.

Also, show some love to the local businesses in Trona and Randsburg while you're out there. The Trails Drive-In (Trona) should be open for take out (except they're always closed Sundays) and the General Store in Randsburg has been posting online showing that they're serving take out.

The staff at both of those locations are angels and deserve big tips.
  • Ok thanks for the pinnacles tips. Thankfully we can be fully self contained so can live without the toilets... :)
I will bear in mind the restaurants you suggest. Yes they all need our support at the moment....
  • We stayed at the Longstreet Casino and rv Park which is just outside of Death Valley. They never fill up and they space people apart. Around $35/night, full hookups. We would stay there again.

  • Thanks everyone. Really useful tips on where to stay. Much appreciated.
Just returned from Pinnacles where we went instead, it was quiet, beautiful and we felt more isolated there than here at home....
