If they bought it when the dollars were close to par then they really did make out well. Win/win like you said.
Snow birding doesn't have to be a financial drain, but you got to work pretty hard at it (and have some dumb luck along the way.)
If the current snowbird lifestyle is indeed shrinking, then the current way of investing into it will only bring losses as the demand to continue the status quo goes down. As long as it's an acceptable dollar loss vs the enjoyment gain who cares.
We all want to enjoy the fruits of our labor, but none of us want to be a burden on the kids late in life either.
