Detroit Campground, Fairgrounds?

In 2006 we camped at the fairgrounds outside of Detroit for a week. Does anyone know if that option is still available to stay at? I don't see any information anywhere about it now in any of my resources. Thank you!
  • Oldcar,

That would have been the Wayne County Fairground, and as near as I know it is still available.

The Wayne County Fair is on right now, but will be over the 12th and the grounds available sometime shortly after that.

What are you coming here to see/do?
As a native guide, I might be of some assistance.

  • Thank you. I'm glad I asked. We are in Michigan City, Indiana and leaving tomorrow. We were going to be in Detroit Friday or Saturday but our schedule is flexible. Do you know of any other campgrounds in the area that would be convenient to the city? If not we can wander around Michigan for a few days more.
  • I think the fairgrounds are the best choice for the area. Call ahead to make sure the fair is over. August is fair season in MI.
  • A fairly convenient one is Detroit-Greenfield RV Park in Ypsilanti. I've stayed there a number of times. It's served our purpose well.

  • We saw that but got nervous when all the recent reviews were bad. I always take them with a grain of salt but this year was all bad. But thank you. We have made reservations for the weekend in Swanton, Ohio. The fairground is available next week if we want to see Detroit. We have been there before and our main target is crossing into Canada.

If you want to wander just a twitch further east, ok, an hour, into Canada, the Wheatley Provincial Park on the north shore of Lake Erie is a great spot. Nearby is the famous Point Pelee National Park.
