Diamond Lake, Oregon

We are making a trip to the Crater Lake area a week or so after Labor Day and looked at making the Diamond Lake campground our base. From what I understand, the campground is first come first serve after Labor Day. Is this still a Forest Service campground? Anyone have any input on whether this would be a good spot to use for exploring the area?

We plan to head out on Highway 138 and head toward the coast when we leave the area.

We do Diamond Lake after Labor Day and it's no problem to get a site, Last year we went in mid Sept than to the coast than back to Diamond lake the first of Oct. and the place was about empty.
This is a good place to stay and to go see Crater Lake and see the waterfalls on Hwy 138. The mosquitoes will be about gone by Sept.

I don't recommend the Diamond Lake RV Resort.

Oh come on now. You cant make a blanket statement like that without an explination.
  • Yes, still a Forest Service park.
Looks like some are first come and some are reservations operated by Reserve America.

We have stayed across the street at Diamond Lake RV Park..a private operation.

Both times we camped there the mosquitoes were brutal...but, it's a beautiful area and there is a great paved bike trail all the way around the lake.
