- agesilausExplorer IIIThe entrance road was paved when we went in. Yet another reason to be careful with GPS directions.
- IluvrvcampingExplorerI know, GPS is tricky. I never fully trust it.
:-) - Dog_FolksExplorerThe road entrance road is directly off US 27 and Paved. Use it. Your GPS, maybe, trying to take you in from the north which does have an unpaved road.
South bound on Us. 27 look for a large lake on your left. When you start seeing it, start looking on the right side of the road for the entrance. It is State road 634 and runs right into the park. There should be a brown directional sign just before the turn. The road is south of the Outback Steakhouse.
Hope this helps. - GMandJMExplorerDogFolks is correct. You GPS has your going in the back entrance of HH. Although the unpaved road was not awful when we were there in our towd a few weeks ago, they have had some rain since then so conditions might have changed.
As DF said, look for the big brown sign on 27. - IluvrvcampingExplorerThanks Dog Folks.

Thanks Dog Folks.
You are welcome.
You are going to love Highlands Hammock.
It is one of our favorite state parks.
Make sure you drive the three mile loop at dusk and watch the deer feed.
Happy Camping. - WrongWayRandallExplorerThat's a great park - lots to see there. Take binoculars as there will be a lot of stuff to look at (birds, critters, etc.) There are a number of boardwalks that used to be quite, interesting, in places but which are now very modern and sturdy. If you look at the website they should have a map of the park and you'll see the road that the GPS is talking about in the back of the park. We stopped using GPS navigation when camping for this very reason and now use our old, but trusty, printed road atlas instead. Have a good time!
- Randy - IluvrvcampingExplorerWe love the park. Dog Folks your directions were excellent. We drove the loop before leaving the park to go out for dinner. Didn't see any deer. Probably to early. what I really want to see is an alligator. I've seen them in captivity but never in the wild. Going to do the trails and take the tram tour with the ranger.
I love this forum, you all are so very helpful. I really appreciate you taking the time to help out a fellow traveler.

Thanks much for the update. Enjoy. - GMandJMExplorerIf Highlands Hammock doesn't have any gators for you, Myakka River State Park has them in great quantity. Neat place. It's about 45 miles or so southeast of HH.
