I camp at Topsail frequently. However this is my first visit this year. That being said, I am very disappointed in Topsail this visit. When I arrived to get my campsite, the lady at the desk was very rude. She acted like she did not want to be bothered. Told me my campsite was occupied, and that's OK I had no problem waiting. I drove by our site and it was empty. When I went back up there, she was aggravated that I came back in. She said oh yeah it's empty. (What?). The entire visit the pool was closed for maintence. Every park person I talked to gave me a different answer. The restrooms were dirty and not being cleaned. No AC in either restroom. The doors are open and bugs coming in. No more AC I guess. The sites are not being kept up. The grass is very tall. No sign of anyone taking care of it like they use to have. I saw one volunteer the entire visit ride around on a golf cart to see if you were off your site, but no blowing off the site or anything. These little things are a part of the reasons we choose to camp here. My opinion is they are letting this park go. It is not the park it use to be

I was just not happy with the up keep of the park

Sounds to me like there's a customer relations "closure" there as well and "maintenance" hasn't begun on that either. With the poor customer service that you describe and the general degradation of a once good park, I would wonder if it has been sold and the new owners are going to drive it into the ground.

Oh No- Another camper for Grayton Or Henderson.

It Can't be sold, it's a state park.We stayed there two weeks ago. Everything was clean and neat, the lawn crew came by on the day we were told they would.They did drive by to see what sites were open.The office was fine and actually got me a refund for leaving a day early.Didn't ask for one, just wanted to let them know the site was open early, but the computer said I get a refund for that day.Didn't use the restrooms, pool was open, and we didn't see any construction equipment. It is posted on their site and we saw that at least a month before going, no surprise.We were there starting the 5th and left Thursday the 9th.Not sure how you could have only seen one volunteer.There are two on the tram, and more in the store,plus the ones driving around on golf carts.

Have traveled to Topsail regularly for the past 50 yrs. but will never return because of this post. :S

Agree with you Fla Gypsy stay away from Grayton and Henderson stay at topsail.

I read wher topsale was removing the asphalt from sites that require repaying and installing 57 stone or gravel. I had also heard the gras and foliage was being left to grow to increase privacy between sites. Could be just scuttle but.

I agree that they have really let the park deteriorate. We stopped there last year after a few year absence and was really disappointed at the lack of maintenance through out the park. What used to be paved roads and sites were full of potholes. Trees and brush were untrimmed.
Electric and TV cable lines were running above ground, just out in the open. The state bought a prime property in excellent condition and let it go to heck.
I see the same lack of maintenance at Curry Hammock. There the rest rooms are falling apart. The handicap/accessible stalls have been closed for the past few years. In order to get into my site there, I had to go get hedge clippers from the host and cut back the growth just to be able to get into the site. He watched while I did the work !

The fact that the website does have the alert about construction to upgrade the park DOES say something that they do know about and care about how it looks and are going to improve it.

Like I said earlier, we didn't use the rest rooms or pool, but the rest was nice.
Grass was being cut, we had no utilities above ground, roads weren't bad, place was clean. Great privacy between sites.
Not sure what everyone is seeing, but it was nice two weeks ago.
I agree with teamfour.
