Disneyworld rant

I go to Disneyworld about every 20 years and then I remember why I don't go more often. It's too crowded for the price. But - when I retire I will probably give it a try when the kids are in school. Maybe it won't be so bad then.

Guess the OP has never been in the Lake George NY area camping as the campgrounds there charge close to $100.00/night and some even charge extra to take a shower in the "outhouses". Another CG along the St Lawrence Seaway charges $70-$100/night but no cable. Should point out the 2 areas mentioned for CG's are full hook ups w/ cable being incl in the LG areas. We've never been to FW CG but probly will should we go down at some point w/ the RV as we have pets. Don't agree w/ the admission prices WDW charges, but if done once every few years, doesn't sound too bad. All boils down to as to what you want/expect out of your stay.

I don’t like the NFL or NBA but I like Ft Wilderness. I have no desire to go to Vegas or NYC...to each his own.

Yes, agreed, Disney is not exactly the place for a trip on a budget. I have been camping since my days as Boy Scout back in Puerto Rico and have been fortunate to camp out in hundreds of places. I am also a retired Disney cast member and the Fort was part of my area of responsibility. The cast and service is first class. The sites can run from the tight and quaint of a pop up to the five slide 45 footers. The amenities are those of an all inclusive vacation getaway. That someone went there and didnot find it to their liking, well, it happens.

+1. My wife is also a retired cast member and we enjoy Fort Wilderness several times a year, in addition to other places. We will usually go for 4 or 5 days depending on my work schedule and will spend some time in the parks but also relax at the campground. Hard to compare to a "normal" campground. I do enjoy camping at or near the National Parks more, especially Grand Canyon or the Smoky Mountains. However, being about a 30 minute tow away, the Fort is a great place to go to relax and enjoy the benefits my wife worked so hard for.

We took our kids in 1996, in 2 years we will be taking our grandkids, that is about the only time I can gag down spending 4k in 4 days.

We have been there twice in about 25 years.Once to take our kids,once to take our grandkids. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes. We can't afford to do it on a regular basis. But to see how much fun our grand kids had it was worth the money.

Speaking of gagging down prices, my wife fell out of our camper and broke her wrist. The ER visit bill arrived today... over $18,000 dollars. 4 days? Try 4 hours. And it doesn't stop there; visit to the doc's for setting and a cast (after her refusing the surgery for pins and plates that they couldn't say if it would help or not), physical therapy, meds, etc.
I'm sorry, I digress. But at least I'm still ranting, even if off topic! Ha!

I guess what I'm trying to say is that medical costs make a day at Disneyworld look like nothing when it comes to my wallet.

Agreed that it's "to each his own". Our retirement community is about 45 minutes away. A couple here LOVES, LOVES, LOVES everything Disney. They go all the time -
not to Ft. Wilderness, but to all of the parks. They've sold their house here and are building a house in another retirement community about 15 minutes or less away from Disney. Apparently, they can go out the back gate of their new community and be there in a flash. So, for some, the place is magical.
